What is Santa Barbara County Search & Rescue?

Santa Barbara County Search & Rescue (SBCSAR) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit, team whose members practice skills and maintain the equipment required to conduct search and rescue operations. When called into service SBCSAR operates under the direction of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department. The team is on call 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, covering all 2,735 square miles of Santa Barbara County specializing in responses to lost and injured people in the back country. The team is highly trained in technical rope rescue, swiftwater, alpine operations, search theory, and tracking. As a member of the Mountain Rescue Association for over 35 years, SBCSAR also responds to search and rescue efforts throughout California and the United States.In addition to search and rescue operations, the team also supports of various civic and non-profit activities such as back country charity events and races.
